'I mean, you never really know what's true and what's not,' Lea Michele tells MTV News about Lohan's appearance on the show.
By Jocelyn Vena

On Tuesday night, the long-hyped Lindsay Lohan episode of "Glee" hit the airwaves. Although her appearance was short, it was also full of sweet, self-deprecating humor. The actress, playing herself, was able to make cracks about her contentious public image.

Joking on the show that she's "in full 'image re-branding mode' here, people," Lohan appeared as a judge at Nationals choir competition in Chicago, where the Gleeks of the New Directions were performing for all the glory. Lohan's glory may have lasted only two minutes and 46 seconds, but she packed some punches, even taking a shot at "The Voice," which has been going head-to-head with "Glee" network Fox's own "American Idol" this season.

"I show up here and there isn't even a red button I can push and a chair that can spin me around, where I can then point at a kid onstage and say, 'I want to work with you'? I'm seriously firing my manager."

Leading up to her cameo, there had been lots of chatter that LaLohan may not have been all that professional about the gig. After being cast on the show in March, rumors began to spread weeks later that the actress was late to set because she had been hitting the party scene right before she had to shoot.

While co-star Perez Hilton (who also played a judge on the episode) skirted around the issue when MTV News caught up with him, the show's stars Lea Michele and Chris Colfer seemed unaware of the controversy.

Colfer shared that he was "not surprised, unfortunately" to hear that people had been spreading rumors about her, with his pal Michele adding that everything seemed kosher when she was on set.

"I mean, you never really know what's true and what's not," she explained to MTV News at the Fox upfront in New York City this week. "From what we know, she did her stuff and we were busy shooting ours."

Regardless of what really happened when Lohan appeared on the show, perhaps this line stands as her finest statement about her relationship with the public: "Is there anything better than someone making a comeback?"

The show's third season finale, "Goodbye," airs May 22. Season four will kick off this fall with a spankin'-new Britney Spears tribute episode, as well as cameos by Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker.

What did you think of Lindsay's cameo on "Glee"? Celebrity-gossip blogger skirts addressing Lohan's alleged unprofessionalism while shooting this week's 'Nationals' episode.
By John Mitchell, with reporting by Audrey Kim

Celebrity-gossip blogger Perez Hilton guest stars on this week's big "Nationals" episode of "Glee," but was uncharacteristically reluctant to address the rumors of fellow guest star Lindsay Lohan's alleged on-set misbehavior when MTV News caught up with him at Wango Tango in Los Angeles this weekend.

"I'm on 'Nationals,' a very important episode, and Lindsay Lohan is also on this episode," Hilton told MTV News. "And it's a nail-biter. Everybody has to watch."

When the conversation turned to allegations that Lohan was hours late to set and was difficult once she finally arrived, Hilton chose his words very carefully, turning the conversation back to himself — and in so doing, seemed to imply that Lohan was not at her professional best.

Asked about talk of Lohan's misbehavior, Hilton said, "I showed up to set early and prepared and was very happy to be there and professional, excited and appreciative for the opportunity."

Rumors of on-set trouble erupted April 25, when actress Dot-Marie Jones, who plays Coach Beiste on the Fox hit, tweeted about an unnamed person's late arrival to set, causing delays in filming. "Gonna be a long day!! Some ppl show up late and just throw a wrench in things," Jones reportedly tweeted. "Not cool! I'd rather be an hour early (I was) than 5 minutes late!" Jones' tweet has since been deleted.

Regarding Lohan's alleged tardiness, the actress' rep, Steve Honig, told E! News that there was a mixup with her call time, and said any claims of problems on the "Glee" set are "utter B.S."

"This is a classic example of people trying to bash Lindsay. She busted her ass yesterday and is back on set again today," he continued.

Like Hilton, Lohan appears as herself on the episode. The pair play judges at the national singing competition the show's choir, New Directions, participates in.

'I am very honored to have been asked to play this role,' Lohan says of the Lifetime movie 'Liz and Dick.'
By Kara Warner

After a few months of will-she-or-won't-she debate as to whether Lindsay Lohan would actually appear in a made-for-TV biopic about Elizabeth Taylor, we finally have confirmation that she will officially take on the role of the Hollywood icon in the Lifetime movie "Liz and Dick." According to the network's official announcement obtained by Deadline, the story will revolve around the torrid and headline-grabbing romance between the blue-eyed beauty and Hollywood leading man Richard Burton. The two megastars were the original Brangelina, and their tempestuous relationship was the most infamous celebrity love affair of its day. "I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor," Lohan said in the statement. "She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role." This isn't the first time Lohan has portrayed a legend. She's done a few Hollywood pinup-inspired photos, including her Marilyn Monroe-esque photo shoot for Playboy, which garnered record sales when she graced the cover. "We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor," Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming for Lifetime Networks, said in a statement. "She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon." Principal photography on the movie will begin in early June in Los Angeles.

Judge tells troubled actress, 'Stop nightclubbing and focus on your work.'
By Gil Kaufman

Lindsay Lohan got some good news on Thursday when she appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court and a judge formally ended her lengthy supervised probation from two 2007 DUI arrests. Wearing a Powder-blue pantsuit, the troubled actress earned praise for completing her court-mandated counseling sessions and 480 hours of community service.

According to the Los Angeles Times, at the final probation status check-in for Lohan in connection with a shoplifting conviction and probation violations from the 2007 arrests, Judge Stephanie Sautner said Lohan had finished her obligations for counseling and community service in "short of a year and she has done everything this court asked her to do."

The actress completed the final counseling sessions and community service work at the Los Angeles County morgue earlier this week. Sautner then announced that the five years of probation for the DUI case were officially over and that she was putting Lohan on unsupervised probation for the shoplifting incident until May 2014.

"The only terms for you are for you to obey all laws," Sautner said. "You don't need to come to court anymore."

In addition to countless court appearances, Lohan has been jailed several times
for violations stemming from drug use to failing to do her required community service.

Clearly pleased, Lohan, 25, told the judge, "I just wanted to thank you for being fair. What you've done has really opened a lot of doors for me."

Lohan has been working on getting her career back on track, recently appearing in an episode of "Saturday Night Live",
 booking a "Glee" gig
and signing up to play Elizabeth Taylor
 in a TV movie.

But, before the hearing ended, Sautner had one more piece of advice for Lohan. "Stop nightclubbing and focus on your work," she counseled.

One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful' rumored for Fox comedy, which will also feature Whoopi Goldberg.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lindsay Lohan is confirmed to make an appearance on "Glee." The announcement comes in a wave of casting news for the hit Fox comedy, which includes a spot for comedian and talk-show host Whoopi Goldberg. A rep for Lohan confirmed the casting to E! News. In a May episode of the show, Lohan is rumored to be onboard to play herself as a judge at Nationals.

Lindsay's mother, Dina, once took issue with "Glee" for poking fun at her after the show included a scene in which Katie Couric informed Jane Lynch's character, Sue Sylvester, that she beat out Dina and her dog Sparky to make the list of the "world's biggest losers." Dina had said, "It's a shame as the dance numbers are amazing, but the writers need to be nice and more creative as opposed to being hurtful." Lohan has recently been making strides to get back into the acting spotlight. She hosted "Saturday Night Live" this season and is in talks to play the late Elizabeth Taylor in a small-screen biopic. As for Goldberg, she'll be in three episodes in May, playing a New York Academy of the Dramatic Arts professor (Carmen Tibideaux) who travels to Ohio to meet with Kurt and Rachel about possible acceptance into the school. In other "Glee" news, rumor has it One Direction might be following in the Wanted's footsteps, getting covered on the show. Matthew Morrison reportedly told The Sun that the cast will be covering the boy band's single "What Makes You Beautiful." "I've just heard of them, they're really taking over the States," Morrison said. "We are covering one of their songs on 'Glee': 'What Makes You Beautiful.' I need to YouTube it to practice." A rep for the band hadn't responded to MTV News' request for confirmation by press time.

Jack White's 'Saturday Night Live' performance proves he has awesome to spare, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery

The most distracting thing on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend wasn't Lindsay Lohan's face (or overall lack of preparation); it was Jack White and his general awesomeness.

This is, of course, nothing new. Back in 2010, when writing about the White Stripes' "Under Great White Northern Lights" film, I compared White to "a woodblock printer, a missionary, a wheelwright [and] a buckskin-clad frontiersman" (among other things), all of which are thoroughly awesome in their own way. Shoot, before that, I praised White for phoning a Chicago radio station — from Spain, nonetheless — to accuse them of cowardice (always awesome) after they played a leaked copy of the Stripes' Icky Thump album.

(White subsequently rationalized the call to me thusly: "Jack White the singer and songwriter isn't reacting to you; it's the president of Third Man Records calling you and asking for an explanation." And referring to yourself in the third person is most definitely awesome.) In reality, there is no end to White's inherent awesomeness. He makes his entire road crew dress in matching suits and bowler hats. He haggled like a pro (and wore an excellent fedora) on "American Pickers." He runs his entire Third Man empire out of a record shop/ warehouse located next to some train tracks in a less-than-desirable section of Nashville. He's recorded with auctioneers and the Insane Clown Posse (and just about everyone else). He made the "Treat Me Like Your Mother" video. And the sentiments he expressed when announcing the end of the White Stripes — namely, "The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want" — well, they were certainly incredibly awesome too. Anyway, here's the point: As you are probably aware, next month, White will release his first solo album, Blunderbuss. And this weekend on "Saturday Night Live," while Lohan flailed, he performed a pair of songs from that album: sublime first single "Love Interruption" and the spastic, space-truckin' stomper "Sixteen Saltines." They were notable for several reasons, the least of which being that, unlike the recent spate of "SNL" musical, uh, efforts — I'm looking at you, Lana Del Rey and Karmin — they were actually really good. And the pair of songs probably served as a reminder to some about White's power and prowess. But that's not what made them so distracting.

Rather, it was the fact that, for reasons apparent only to him, White decided to bring two backing bands to the show: one all female, the other entirely male. And sure, you could probably argue that the lithe "Love Interruption" could only be played by females, while the more muscular "Sixteen Saltines" benefited from male musicians (Noel Gallagher certainly believes both of these things to be true). In fact, that might actually be why White did it, though I'd prefer to think that he had another reason: Because he is awesome. From his earliest days, White has excelled at turning the most minute of details into the most important of points: everything from the Stripes' unflagging color scheme to the "official tartans" the band had made for their "aluminum anniversary" (that's 10 years, FYI). It's sort of what makes him stand out from his rock-star contemporaries — he genuinely seems to care about stuff like connecting the dots and cultivating a mystique. And his "SNL" stunt is just the latest example of this; not only were his backing bands uniform in their sex, they wore color-coordinated, outfits too. Is there anyone else who would go to these lengths, for no particular reason? Of course not. And yet, the best thing about White is the fact that, even though we've come to expect the unexpected from him, we're always surprised by what he does. Or how effortlessly he seems to do it. Blowing the likes of Lana Del Rey off the "SNL" stage isn't difficult, but doing it with style to spare — well, that's something else entirely. It's awesome. And it's inherently Jack White. He's back and badder than ever, with two new bands at his disposal. For his next trick, perhaps he'll try to revive Lohan's career — and who knows? He might even succeed.

What do you think of White's latest incarnation? While Lohan's hosting skills may be up for debate, her 'SNL' episode delivers second-highest ratings of the season.

And while folks can argue how effectively she performed, ratings-wise, there's no debating she packed a punch.

Lohan scored early laughs as host but 'Saturday Night Live' castmembers did heavy comedic lifting.
By Ryan J. Downey

Following a week of self-deprecating promos and a cold open starring Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney and Andy Samberg as Kid Rock, Lindsay Lohan's monologue dove right on top of the white elephant inside New York's Studio 8H: her troubles. And while the crowd (and cast) was clearly supportive at the top of the show, the evening's sketches featured "SNL" regulars doing the comedic heavy lifting. Lohan's lines were noticeably few. When she did speak, she clearly read from cue cards.

But the monologue was a great start. Clad in a form fitting blue dress with a leggy slit, she began: "I feel lucky and grateful to be here tonight and that's why I really want to thank all of my friends at 'SNL' who trusted me enough to have me back. This studio feels like home to me," then suddenly, a mock "house arrest" style alarm sounded when she started to move.

"Wait, so the alarm goes off if I leave the stage? I thought it was if I left the studio!" she said, to supportive laughs.

Keenan Thompson was soon by her side, pretending to check her eyes for dilation. Lohan said she could just as easily be checking him, to which he replied, "Oh, I'll save you the trouble! I've been stoned since 'Good Burger!' " Kristen Wiig was out next. "I do get the feeling that everybody thinks I'm going to screw something up," Lohan told the "Bridesmaids" star.

"Everybody believes in you," Wiig said. "We wouldn't have you back otherwise." The audience applauded those lines pretty loudly. Then Wiig immediately pretended to pat the host down, jokingly explaining, "I'm a lesbian now."

"Been there done that," Lohan replied.

As expected, following Lohan's invitation on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" on Thursday, Fallon made a short, supportive appearance. "The new / old Lindsay Lohan is back!" the "SNL" veteran declared. "Are you sure?" she asked sheepishly.

"You're the same little girl who stole our hearts in 'The Parent Trap,' you're the teenager who dazzled us in 'Mean Girls,' " he said, all to loud cheers. "You're the lady who absolutely blew us away in 'The Help.' " The last line, of course, was a reference to Emma Stone, who played a dazed and confused Lohan in a 2010 "SNL" sketch.

"You can do this," he added. "And if for any reason you can't, Jon Hamm is on standby as backup host." Sure enough, the "Mad Men" star (who was in "Bridesmaids," and had a recurring role on "30 Rock," as well) was right there in the audience.

While Hamm never stepped in to take over, the early consensus online was that Lohan was given noticeably little to do and relied heavily on cue cards and / or teleprompters. To be fair, the long-running iconic show is famously rewritten and rehearsed until the eleventh hour and many hosts (and castmembers) often read cue cards.

The studio crowd seemed to want to support her, but Twitter users were much less forgiving. "This may be the first time Lindsay Lohan had trouble doing lines," @DrunkEnough said.

"The paddling to Comeback Island would be more believable if Lohan didn't need a teleprompter to remember the plots of her own movies," tweeted @Shinangovani.

A "Real Housewives of Disney" sketch, during which Lohan threw a mean right cross as a Rapunzel who knowingly wasn't much different than Lohan's own public persona, mostly killed. But it was followed by a flat "2012 Psychic Awards" bit opposite Andy Samberg where her reliance on off-camera lines became extremely clear. Next, Hader, Andy Samberg, Bobby Moynihan and Jason Sudeikis were in their usual roles in a "scared straight" sketch, where Thompson played the prison inmate whose stories are derived from famous movies and whose taunts are filled with increasingly vulgar sexual innuendo.

"My name is Lorenzo Macintosh," Thompson said, with the show's host beside him. "And I'm Lindsay Lohan," she replied to much applause, scoring more points with self-deprecation. The "scared straight" sketch had more lines for Lohan than anything else in the episode. There were jokes about spending time in rehab in Malibu and a reference to "Herbie: Fully Loaded," "Freaky Friday," "The Parent Trap," "Mean Girls" and the $2500 necklace she was accused of stealing from an L.A. jewelry store, a violation of her probation from a 2007 driving case. "If you ever think of stealing a diamond," she warned the trio of young hooligans, "just remember: 'every kiss begins with rape.' " She read all of the lines, flubbing some of them.

After Jack White's first musical segment and a Lohan-less "Weekend Update," the host returned as part of a group of '50s style "delinquent teen girls" dancing in a busy street. Fred Armisen, in drag, was the focal point of the sketch. Lohan did more dancing than speaking (though she looked great in her extremely short shorts) and was absent from the night's first digital short. As the show hit the hour mark, Lohan had appeared only three times since her opening monologue.

A sketch about a hip-hop morning radio show in Minnesota included Lohan as "our intern, illiterate Lisa." Two castmembers played the show's hosts and another castmember played the "news lady." Lohan's character briefly read some incorrect copy (she was "Illiterate Lisa," after all) but the "SNL" trio handled all of the proverbial heavy lifting as the sketch went on. Next was a pharmaceutical commercial sketch featuring Wiig and Hader. Lindsay was once again nowhere to be found.

"East coasters, what's happening on #SNL? Should I keep practicing and working hard at what I do, or is that not necessary any more?" tweeted Josh Groban.

"That awkward moment when you're hosting #SNL but you aren't the star of any of the sketches ... " tweeted user @chescaleigh.

"Lindsay Lohan hasn't made me laugh yet," chimed in culture commentator and New York Times best selling author Toure, also via Twitter. "Can we still replace her with Jon Hamm?"

Lohan had a little more to do in a sketch opposite Kristen Wiig, playing it straight to a neck brace-wearing Wiig's wild antics. But it was clear that she was still reading all of her lines, even studying them during moments where Wiig was performing. The next sketch, a previously aired commercial spoof starring Hader and Armisen, marked yet another Lohan-less moment.

The last sketch of the evening was an ensemble bit with Andy Samberg as "Rude Buddha." Lohan wasn't required to do much more than ask, "Is there any way that you can help me reach nirvana?" She had been looking to "SNL" to kickstart a career comeback. Earlier in the week, she told Fallon she had begged producer Lorne Michaels to have her back on the show.

"Saturday Night Live" has played pivotal roles in Lindsay's career since she was 17. Former "SNL" head writer and castmember Tina Fey wrote and co-starred in "Mean Girls," which remains Lohan's biggest hit aside from "Freaky Friday." Lindsay made her "SNL" hosting debut the day after "Mean Girls" was released, guesting in a pair of, now classic, sketches.

She returned as a surprise guest during a "Weekend Update" segment in December of that year, under a fog of tabloid speculation about her weight loss, love life, medical problems and pop singer aspirations. Two years later, Lohan admitted to Vanity Fair that Fey and "Weekend Update" co-host Amy Poehler had sat her down and expressed concerns for her well being. "I just started bawling," she told the magazine. "I knew I had a problem and I couldn't admit it."

In addition to the hard partying regularly followed by the paparazzi, Lohan has been cast and recast in movie projects (including one about '70s porn star Linda Lovelace) and tangled with the law, including a situation where she was accused of theft after wearing an expensive necklace out of a Venice, California jewelry store. Four years after Lohan made her third hosting appearance on "SNL" in 2006, Emma Stone played her in a sketch that lampooned the young star's problems.

On Thursday's taped appearance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," Lohan publicly asked the ex-"SNL" castmember to drop by Studio 8H during the taping. Fallon also played a clip of the sketch that launched Rachel Dratch's recurring "Debbie Downer" character back in 2004, the same year that "Mean Girls" (written by "SNL" veteran Tina Fey) was in theaters.

Fallon famously had trouble keeping a straight face during his time on "SNL" and the inaugural "Debbie Downer" sketch was one for the "breaking" record books. Fallon, Lohan, Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz and Fred Armisen couldn't stop laughing during Dratch's dour one-liners. "I was trying to not to laugh," Fallon recalled. "I know you were, but it made it worse," noted Lohan.

In an interview with NBC's "Today," also on Thursday (March 1), Lohan told host Matt Lauer that "I still need to go through the process of proving myself, with 'SNL,' being on time, keeping my ... stuff together." She also said she had gotten clearance from her legal team to address her recent troubles on the long-running sketch comedy show. She talked openly about staying clean and sober and called her time doing community service in Los Angeles "humbling" and "a learning experience."

How do you think LiLo performed on "Saturday Night Live?"
